NEW ORLEANS - Idan Mark and Joe Young, of the Tulane men's tennis team, received postseason honors from Conference USA on Thursday as the 2012 first and second singles and doubles teams were announced by the conference office, along with the specialty award winners.

Mark, a junior from Hod Hasharon, Israel, earned first-team All-C-USA honors after posting a 10-7 dual match record in the spring with a pair of conference victories. He was 7-7 on court one and went 3-0 on court two and nine of his 10 wins were in straight sets.

Mark also teamed with Joe Young to receive second-team All-C-USA doubles honors. The pair posted a 14-6 dual match record, including a perfect 6-0 record in Conference USA matches. They help guide Tulane to six straight doubles point wins during the season and won 10- straight matches.

"It's a great honor to have singles and doubles players to be voted onto the all conference teams," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "It really shows their development over the last 3 years as well as the development of the program."

Mark, who was named second-team all-conference last season, is the first Green Wave player to be named first-team since David Gouletearned the honor in 2005.

The Green Wave (12-11) posted the program's first winning season since the 2005 team went 22-8.                          

  Kosta Blank Leads UNCW Back to the NCAA Men's    Tennis Tournament

Kosta Blank and the UNCW tennis team (ranked 44th in the US) lost to the 16th ranked University of Tennessee in the NCAA tournament on May 12th. This was the second time in 3 years that the team made the NCAA tennis tournament with the Israeli player. This past year, Blank and teammate Chris Cooprider were nationally ranked as high as 85th in doubles. Kosta, a junior from Kfar Saba, played and studied at the Israel Tennis Center Academy in Ramat Hasharon. 

        Liat Zimmerman's Fantastic First Semester at the University of Miami

Liat Zimmerman started school at the University of Miami in January 2012.  She quickly found herself as an important part of the women's tennis team, earning a national ranking in doubles.  The 20th-ranked underclassmen tandem of Liat Zimmermann and sophomore Melissa Bolivar were scheduled to start in the round of 32 of the NCAA Women's Doubles Championships last week, however, injuries to both players forced them to withdraw.

The Miami duo had been ranked as high as No. 12 in the nation this season playing out of the Canes’ No. 1 position. They ended the season with an 18-9 record against the nation’s best doubles teams.

University of Minnesota reaches NCAA Women's Team Tournament

The Minnesota women’s tennis team had its turnaround season come to an end on Friday with a 4-1 loss to No. 28 Arizona in the first round of the NCAA tournament at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Gophers, who entered the tournament ranked No. 35, finished the season with a 16-9 record. Minnesota, which was playing in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2003, finished the season with eight more wins than it had all of last year (Gophers were 8-16 last year).

The match at second doubles between Doron Muravnik and Alexa Palen of Minnesota and Sarah Landsman and Hailey Johnson of Arizona went unfinished. The Minnesota duo was trailing 7-6 when the match was abandoned.

Smyth clinched the match for Arizona with a 6-1, 7-6 (2) win against Muravnik at No. 1 singles. Muravnik, who ended the season with a 24-11 record (15-8 in dual matches), was playing No. 1 singles for the first time in her career.
